Meow Monday: Curiosity Can Harm Your Cat

Spring has sprung and Easter is almost upon us. In many households this means decorative colorful plastic grass, chocolate bunnies and Easter lilies. In a cat's eyes this means new stuff to investigate and play with which is not safe for your kitty (or your dog). If you have a cat/s in your household you will want to keep any of these items away from your cat's curious trouble making ways. My cat Jasper is a plastic chewing aficionado which is why no plastic is allowed near him. Plastic grass may be decorative and cute during Easter but it can pose a real hazard to your cat's health in the form of a digestive tract obstruction as well as vomiting and dehydration. That green plastic grass isn't so cute anymore is it? Easter lilies are very popular around this time of year and they are extremely toxic to your pets as well as any chocolate bunnies. So when in doubt make sure all of it is locked away tight where your furry friends can't reach it. Spring is also the time of "Spring Cleaning" - a time-honored tradition in many households. Clean all you want but please make sure you keep all cleaners and chemicals away from where your pets can get into them. Almost all chemicals in cleaners are harmful to your pets. So make sure you properly use them and store them. Wanting to grow a beautiful, bountiful garden? Fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides can be fatal if your pet ingests them. When buying these products always read the labels and make sure that your pet does not need to stay off the lawn or garden area for a period of time after their use. Then when you are done using them properly store them out of harms way. Just some quick Spring time tips. Tomorrow check back for a post on poisonous plants. Winston Wednesday: Save A Life

Happy Winston Wednesday! Winston and I hope everyone has had a great day. I just got home from work and came home to a clean Winston who was freshly bathed by my husband. Winston loves baths and was definitely in need of one! He's got to be nice and clean for Puggerfest on Saturday. I bought him an adorable shirt today to wear there but I'm not going to give you any details. You will just have to wait for pictures. I brought the shirt home and tried it on Winston and he was so excited.

So October is an important month for the ASPCA and Humane Society. They both have a similar awareness event going on during October which for the ASPCA is Adopt A Shelter Dog Month and really just bringing awareness to people on how much good they can bring into a shelter dogs life by either adopting one or volunteering at a shelter. The Humane Society is using October as Adopt-a-Dog Month. They also want to educate people on what a difference they can make. I would like to aid in this process and to encourage you all to help out at your local shelter. Whether you donate, volunteer, adopt a dog or cat, you are genuinely making a difference and that is what counts. I used to volunteer at my local animal shelter for a couple years back in Washington state and I mostly worked with the cats but it was wonderful and I loved it. I cleaned their cages, fed them, comforted them and even got to name them! It was a really rewarding experience. Yes, it was hard sometimes but I knew that I was doing something wonderful and that I was making life better for these cats and that was all that mattered.

Winston Is Ready for Fall

Sundays are definitely mine and Winston's favorite days. We not only get to sleep in but we can do absolutely nothing all day if we feel like it! It's a nice change in pace because I have been pretty busy the past couple months planning some things and also making some life changes for the better. Winston is super excited (okay, not as excited as I am!) that this coming Saturday, October 5th is Puggerfest here in OKC and you can bet I will be taking plenty of pictures which I will post on here! This will be our first Puggerfest and the theme is pirates so tomorrow I need to go find some kind of costume for Winston which I am excited for. Any excuse to dress Winston up is awesome to me. Not only will I be attending Puggerfest on Saturday but I will be participating in the Color Run 5k that morning. I am really looking forward to BOTH events and can't wait to share my experiences with you guys. I am going to finish this post off with a funny video of Winston thinking the cat toy is his. Pug Playtime

Today Winston got to play with his two doggie best friends that live next door. Our neighbors have four little dogs and one happens to be another Pug! Her name is Bella and we always joke how her and Winston are boyfriend and girlfriend. His other best friend over there is S'mores who is a Pekingese/Shih Tzu mix. When our neighbors aren't home I have a key to go in their backyard to steal those two whenever I want. They have been long overdue for a playdate. Here are some cute pictures my husband took! Unfortunately S'mores is kind of hard to get a good picture of so i'll post an older one I have of him.

They're all waiting for me to bring them water from inside.

Well I hope everyone is having a great day! I probably wont post again until Monday because my husband and I are going to be going on a trip to New Mexico for a week to see some family but I am going to make sure that the entries for the contest are posted on Monday.

Pets Provide Entertainment

As you can see from this blog I truly love my pets! They provide me with love and entertainment when I need it the most. Case in point...Charlie the newest member of my family is the weirdest cat I have ever encountered. Now cats are just weird in general but it's their many quirks that makes me love them so much. Charlie is extra weird though. Want proof? Watch the video below of him biting Winston's neck and humping him! I also wanted to use this post to let everyone know I recently decided to go back to my old job at a Vet Clinic. I will only be working two days a week but I am excited because I truly work with great people and for a great company. Okay, now I am going to leave you with this cute picture...
